Hey mommas, as a blogger, I sometimes get FREE STUFF in the mail. And now it’s time for me to share!
Do you have little readers – or BIG readers – at your house?
The best part of my day is snuggling up on the couch with my boys and reading a chapter book together. Or cheering on the Kindergarten who’s all about reading his beloved board books for the one hundred, million-eth time all by himself.
For your convenience, I’ve included affiliate links. Read my Disclaimer to learn more.
So the boys were super excited when my friend Amanda shipped us a care package the other day FILLED with Usborne books.
Book reviews
There was something for everyone in the box.
The Best Party Ever by Sally Rippin
This is part of the popular “Hey Jack” chapter book series for beginning readers. The book is short enough for my 2nd grader to tackle on his own. And interesting enough that the 6-year-old has already made me read it to him 3x.
I was pleased that there’s a good lesson in the book and features characters dealing with BIG FEELINGS. We’re having discussions about things like getting mad at friends, feeling left out, and also EXCITEMENT!
Letting Go! by Dr. Sharie Coombes
Speaking of BIG FEELINGS, this pandemic has REALLY brought out the EVERYTHING in my children. And this book is incredible. It’s actually “an activity book for young people who need support through experiences of loss, change, disappointment, and grief.”
If I’m honest, this pandemic has brought out BIG FEELINGS in me, too, so maybe I need these activities more than the kiddos. Like drawing pictures of the feelings rattling around in my head and then cutting them up and tossing them in the recycle bin. To learn to LET GO!
100 Things to Know about Space
This is from a series of nonfiction books. And it is full of SO MANY SPACE THINGS.
We’ve discovered that astronauts have to learn Russian because half of the people on the International Space Station are Russian. And it’ll take 100,000 years to get to the next solar system. And the first sandwhich in space was corned beef on rye (yuck).
All Better! by Henning Lohlein
It comes with removeable bandaid stickers! Because your kid gets to help injured animals. This is actually Usborne’s top selling book – and (eek!) it’s on back order til January 2021.
The 6yo loves this book so much that he informed me, “I’m a vet, Mommy!,” and proceeded to narrate the book to me.

Joannah, I haven’t read that one yet, but it does look good! A couple of others with the theme of books/stories are The Biggest Story https://s10678.myubam.com/p/8192/biggest-story-the and The Book Without a Story https://s10678.myubam.com/p/7762/book-without-a-story-the. A fun, interactive one is Story Path https://s10678.myubam.com/p/6137/story-path which lets kids pick how the story goes and help fill in the details themselves. My younger son has enjoyed this one!
Little man would love the Big Book of Big Machines book!

Heather, I’ve been eyeing that one too. It’s currently out of stock, but, as of right now, is scheduled to be back this week. There are a few other feelings books, like the First-Time Feelings series https://s10678.myubam.com/p/8566/first-time-feelings-complete-collection-6, What If I Know My Feelings? https://s10678.myubam.com/p/7606/what-if-i-know-my-feelings, What Are Feelings https://s10678.myubam.com/p/7812/lift-the-flap-first-questions-and-answers-what-are-feelings, and the Mindful Kids series of activity books https://s10678.myubam.com/p/6828/no-worries.

Big book of Spanish words!! Love that my kids are learning Spanish in school and want to reinforce it at home!
My kids would LOVE ‘1,000 Animals’! Looks like a great one!
Yes! And there are two other 1000 Things books that might interest little ones (Under the Sea and Nature). If your kids are big animal fans, 1001 Animals to Spot may be a good one too (it’s currently out of stock, but is supposed to be back in about two weeks). 199 Zoo Animals https://s10678.myubam.com/p/6974/199-zoo-animals is another good one. If they are a little older, this Animals box set https://s10678.myubam.com/p/6181/beginners-animals-box-set-ir has 10 books that have info about specific animals.
My reader has aged out – so I enter and give my choice to Ginny to choose for her boys.
Um, I heart you so much!
Marie, you’re a kind friend! Even though Usborne and Kane Miller books are directed at kids, there still might be something you or your reader of any age might enjoy…especially if you win it for free!
